With these tweaks I can hit the sweet spot of just-enough-to-be-playable-barely FPS on my machine while still allowing the game's beautiful volumetrics to shine. Hope this helps someone! I'm a brand new player to Ark and loving it. Not sure yet if this is some issue with the motion vectors (maybe they're turned off/incorrect for creatures?), TAA/upscaling settings, or something else. r.VolumetricCloud.SampleMinCount can exacerbate this. If you hover a flyer in front of a forest, especially if they have bright wings, you'll notice very visible ghosting following the wings. One other note: this game has temporal problems. Send, r.VolumetricCloud.ViewRaySampleMaxCount 32 Send, r.VolumetricCloud.SampleMinCount 10 F1 and F3 also apply the ark.VertexCountScaling 1 mitigation to prevent the storage open/close crash. F1 to turn cloud/fog/grass off entirely (potato mode, basically), F2 to toggle grass, and F3 to apply the settings outlined in this post. Here is an AutoHotKey script that automates the above. You may wish to tweak them for your own machine. The numbers here (10 and 32) are specifically tailored to give the best fidelity/performance ratio for my machine, which is running a 4090. R.VolumetricCloud.ViewRaySampleMaxCount 32: The maximum number of samples for clouds specifically. This is set a bit high by default, which causes fog to take up more time than it should. I've been messing around with console settings and came up with a pretty decent compromise between visuals and performance that eliminates the flickering and wanted to share. There are so many console commands, but I found only a handful of them really useful.The volumetric effects in ASA look stunning, but we all know they are currently very expensive and even glitchy/flickery at times.
